Straitjacket Blues

about

Solo Artist and multi-instrumentalist ELLiS·D is set for his first single release of 2023, the disco-infused kraut rock number ‘Straitjacket Blues’, on 9th Feb to coincide with a seven date headline UK Tour between 9th-21st Feb.

After a prolific string of releases in 2022, ELLiS·D marks his first collaboration with producer Shuta Shinoda (Hot Chip, Jenny Beth) in a sharp turn away from his previous DIY bedroom recordings. Pounding, expressive drums from the get-go underpin the explosive nature of the single as his unique brand of off- beat vocal quirks give nods to the histrionic side of the likes of David Byrne and Cate Le Bon. Heralded in his native Brighton for his frenzied live performances, ELLiS·D takes to the road with his six piece live band for just the second time since the inception of the project in 2021.

Best known as the manic drummer behind the garage-psych outfit Strange Cages, and more recently Jealous Nostril (alongside Johnny Borell of Razorlight and Jack Flanagan of Mystery Jets), ELLiS·D spent ten years flailing his limbs across the tattered kits of UK and Europe’s basement scene before starting out his solo project in 2021. After signing with label Crafting Room Recordings at the turn of the year, the intense energy found in his live performance was replicated in the studio with an abundance of releases in 2022, notching up two EP’s and four singles in the space of 12 months. Leaping viciously between psychedelic jangle and taut post-punk attack, the release of ‘Straitjacket Blues’ signifies ELLiS·D exploring new territory with tinges of New Wave and LCD-style kraut rock weaving its way into his music.
